It’s only a little while ago since we have seen the very first live pictures of Sony Ericsson longly rumoured UIQ 3.3 phone, the SE P5 or “Paris”.
The solid built slider looks in its shiny black cover looks not only very nice, it has also great multimedia features like a 5MP camera, WLAN and GPS.
The member “gliatiotis ” from the Mobile Review forumshas posted a lot of pictures which are not of best quality but give us a nice impression of the device. Above all, the picture shows us that it has Google Maps and Wayfinder preinstalled, supports Widgets, has touch sensitive softkey like the K850 and shows also the slightly disappointing hardware specifications.
The CPU runs only 208 Mhz what seems to be again no improvement in comparison with the G700 and G900 or facing with latest Nseries devices or even the iPhone.
Well, I better share the opinion of “gliatiotis” with you, who has of course first hand information about the device:
“At first it looks like another improvement of the UIQ platform and most of the changes based on UIQ 3.3 are not visible at a glance .
To be honest after seeing that there has been almost no changes at the hardware level, I am not that interested to play around with it and it will probably end up next to G700 and G900 .
The media application seems to work slightly faster, the same goes for messaging, contacts and most of the commonly used applications .
As for improvements, the camera seems to be at least a little better than the one found in G900 without being the same with the one used in K850 . However, at least at this time, the phone’s software needs some improvement in order to be able to judge the lens/sensor’s performance.
As you can see in the photos, there is a dedicated icon in the main menu for the phone’s navigation capabilities. The W navigator is a version of wayfinder that seems “tweeked” for this very phone .
a-GPS seems to be working the same way as in C702 .
The phone has an array of touch sensitive buttons below the screen however at least in the phone that i have in my hands are not litt properly and probably are not clearly visible in the photos .
Most of them have something to do with the phone’s browser and there is a dedicated button that brings you back to the main menu with one press or brings up the task manager with a long press.
Another one of them brings up the widgets application and there is a C/clear button that i find a surplus since there is a backspace button in the qwerty keyboard and you can always use the one found on the on-screen keyboard.”
Let’s hope Paris’ hardware and software can compete with its great looking exterior. The report of “gliatiotis” shows at least that SE has still some work to do if Paris shall establish itself in the smartphone world.
Now have a look at the pictures, especially at the ones below showing the phone’s screen.
