Initial Impressions Of The E71

Initial Impressions Of The E71

This is one device I have been waiting to get my hands on from time news got out that such a phone exists! I originally planed to hold off till the time the E71 White came out but after a while I simply couldn’t resist and forgot about my enamour and gave the grey variant a go. Turns out, Grey isn’t so bad after all, it in fact is very good looking. Considering, the fact that I had a prejudice against it when the press photos came out, it still amazes me how I absolutely fell for it as soon as I had held it.

WaterBox 1.0

Posted by admin in Wednesday, July 23rd 2008   under: apps    Tags: WaterBox

WaterBox is actually a fluid simulator that uses the built-in accelerometer to detect the phone movement and simulate the fluid moving across the screen according to phone position and moving direction.

All graphics are done with OpenGL ES although it probbably isn’t the best possible choice for 2D graphic but since Teemu is already familiar with codding in OpenGL he decided to use OpenGL engine for this cool application.

Nokia E71 - Reader Review

Nokia E71 - Reader Review

As I wait for my own E71 review unit which I should have very soon, James Wiseman, a reader has looked at the device in a fairly comprehensive manner and sent in his own ‘real user’ point bulliten on the E71. If you are in the market for a new device, the E71 deserves more than a glance. Read on for what James has to say.

One Year Of The Symbian Blog & Bluetooth Headsets Giveaway!

One Year Of The Symbian Blog & Bluetooth Headsets Giveaway!

I have just realised that it has been over an year since The Symbian Blog went online and it has been an absolutely amazing experience. It was on the 20th of May 2007 that my first post went up and since that day it has been a pleasure looking at what you guys have had to say and then trying to learn my lessons. Along the way I have met some wonderful people and have hopefully made some long lasting friendships. I also realise that I am almost two months late in writing this ‘Happy Birthday Blog’ post, so I have something that should compensate for the same. I won’t waste anymore time on nostalgia and get straight to the point.

The TopMobile20 Competition

Posted by admin in Wednesday, July 16th 2008   under: news    Tags: Competition, TopMobile20

My friend Jeb Brilliant of Brilliant Expos has been doing some great work on TopMobile20, a contest site for smartphone software. It is an online contest meant to shine a bright light on the very best smartphone software and in the process help the users learn more about them. The big news is that the contest which opened up in early May is now open till the end of August. So if you are a developer, it’s a fine oppertunity to showcase your application, as the winners will be chosen by a popular vote. For the rest of you, its a good place to check out some nice smartphone software.

Secret - Face The Task

Posted by admin in Wednesday, July 16th 2008   under: news    Tags: Face, Secret, Task

A few days ago I wrote about FaceTheTask, a Nokia initiative that allows you to pre-order a limited edition ‘numbered’ N96 and the proceeds out of which go for charity. However, it is not as simple as it seems. To be one of the 96 people in the world to own a special N96, you will need to place the order while certain limited ‘windows’ are open and these only come along every so often. This is where this post comes in.

Here’s a tip for those of you who’r keen on picking one up, the 3rd opportunity for you to get your hands on the special edition of the device is at 14.33 CET tomorrow (Wednesday). There you go, you have been told! The cat’s out of the bag… go pick it up!
